Facebook is good for pimping



First, get your mind out of the gutter.

I'm not talking about Red Light District-type pimping. I'm talking about pimping out your Facebook status for a cause.

My cause: finding people to write about.

Example: You're working on a story about a product recall. Advertise (for free via your Facebook status) that you need to find someone locally affected by the recall.

If you're lucky, some of your friends know somebody who knows somebody, who has a neighbor whose aunt owns the baby crib recalled.

Facebook has introduced a whole new meaning to six degrees of separation.

It doesn't work 100 percent of the time but it does remind everyone via their news feed that you're always on the prowl for stories and interesting people--which is never a bad thing.

Go ahead, pimp out your Facebook status.
