Final press night has come and gone

The last press night of my college career came and went without major incident.

The last page I edited: page 14, sports, a story about how well the tennis team is doing.

The last crisis I diverted: changing all of our files from Dropbox to our server because our Internet was spotty.

The last column with my title Editor in Chief: a column about not letting preparations overwhelm your life.

The last time I'll yell, "Are there no more pages?!?" like a Brad Pitt Trogan Presswoman. (I know that was supposed to be a secret).

The last time I'll keep checking my phone hours after we go to press--just in case the publisher calls with a problem. (Have fun with this one, Claire).

And so I write now--belly full of celebratory Waffle House--not quite as overwhelmed with emotion as one might think.

And I think I know a few of the reasons why.

1. I poured a lot of the emotions I would be having now onto the table already. My job and the challenges that come with it keep me more riled up than any relationship or class ever has.

2. I'm pretty tired. I'm worn out to be quite honest.

3. (This is the one is most important). I know the emotions I will feel about the paper and my fellow staff members will be much stronger later in life. When I look back as an older person, I'll romanticize this experience. I'll be separated enough that all the bad things will be forgotten and only the great memories will shine through.

The Johnsonian has shaped me, and for a short time, I was lucky to shape the paper.

Hats off to my team and all their hard work. As our trusty adviser, Larry Timbs, would say: ONWARD AND UPWARD.
